This is meant to be an add on to Five Ft 0f Concrete's reply but maybe because of it's length it gets pushed ove the page :)
I've been very impressed by your post here as well as those elsewhere. You show an astute reasoned approach to issues and arguments. Although I'm not from America I agree with you that Obama is probably the best hope America's had for real change in a long time.

The only thing I'd like to add is a comment on America's voting habits - or lack thereof :) Coming from Australia where we have a voter participation rate of 95% it is staggering to think your president is elected with a participation rate that averages 54%, in 1996 it was actually less than 50% now I should point out we have compulsory voting, but in virtually every other country in the world that doesn't the rate of participation is still far greater than in the US. Indeed in Austria and Italy it is also in the 90% range.

So in effect with nearly half your eligible voters not voting there is real room for forces outside the Democratic/Republican binary to affect the election of candidates - something that has been shown in recent elections in the US by the attempt, quite successfully I think, of the religious right to motivate it's people to vote for the Republicans.

Indeed so successful were they that you now have the Democrats grovelling to the religious conservatives as well. Wouldn't it be lovely if some liberal, free thinking, secular movement could motivate all those who don't vote to do so - think how much you could change the political landscape of the US if that were to happen. A pipe dream I know, but sometimes it's nice to dream.

Anyway, really like the way you think Five Ft 0f Concrete :) Love, Michaela xox

I'm not too sure about any of the candidates. Clinton is the only one I know but I am not sure.

If Clinton didn't pull out, I would have voted for her. Obama or McCain are not any choices as far as I'm concerned. McCain means more Bush and Obama's track record (which isn't very long) for his senatorial seat is extremely questionable. I don't like anything I've read and haven't seen anything to counter act that! The media needs to get off reporting how historical an Afro-American President would be and start showing his political past! That is what we Americans need to listening to and not how wonderful a speaker someone is. It's all bullshit! My vote: Ron Paul...............

I will probly vote for a third party candidate but, I might vote for obama. I like what obama says but, I'm old enough to know that in a democracy, it's ALWAYS the bigist liar that wins. The masses of asses will never see through the smoke screen & will vote for whoever makes them feel warm & fuzy inside. I don't know if it's true (it could be republican propaganda) or not but, I heard that obama wants to take away our firearms. That scares the fuck out of me because tyrants never want the slaves to have the means to get justice. I don't care that criminals are killing people with guns, there's too many people on the planet already & if a criminal comes for me or my loved ones.... well that's why I ALWAYS carry a gun.
To answer the question.... maybe obama will get my vote (I really do like the words that come from his lips) but, there is absolutly no way in the 7 hells, that twisted cock sucker ''Mcain'' will get my vote!

I would vote either obama, or hillary *if she hadn't have dropped out* Just to break american taboo about women and black people being president, Obama's wife seems cool *i know, i know very political* She doesn't seem like the typical first lady, very out spoken and such, and it tells alot about a person looking at who they choose as a life partner.

I think there is no difference. each wants power, is willing to demonize the other and their supporters, and will never live up to their campaign promises. I'll still vote (obama) but our system is long overdue for a revolution.
